While in the toddler program your child will expand his/her knowledge of the world around him/her while beginning to strengthen bonds and form friendships. We are committed to creating an environment that nurtures children’s confidence and fosters the development of their imagination.
At Corning Children’s Center, learning should be, and is fun! Our approach is to encourage children to experience exploration, learning, and accomplishment in a joyous and fulfilling way.
A typical toddler day at a glance:
Curriculum- We address all aspects of children’s physical, cognitive, emotional, and social growth and learning through the use of HighScope COR. Each aspect plays a critical role in helping children to develop as whole human beings.
Meal Times- are times during the day to sit and share stories and reflect on the day while beginning to serve meals family style and nurture self-help skills.
Meeting time- is a time that includes singing, talking about the day, reading books, and other teacher-planned group activities. Meeting time gives children the opportunity to develop listening skills, practice taking turns, and experience the delight of shared learning.
Outside time- is a time where children can practice their large motor skills, explore the natural world, and run for the sheer joy of running. It can also be a time where the classrooms take theme-based walks around the neighborhood and the children are able to explore the world around us.
Free play- is an essential element in a young child’s day. During this time, they explore within a planned environment and develop skills through hands-on involvement with developmentally appropriate materials. They also develop and practice the essential skills of sharing, negotiating and managing conflict while exploring art, sensory, math, science, language and literacy activities.
Small Group- this is a time where your child can participate in a small group activity to help encourage sharing, taking turns and strengthening language skills. Activities are planned based on individual interests and developmental needs of the children.
Please remember at the Corning Children’s Center, parent participation and partnership is encouraged.
