Our Care Programs – Preschool/Pre-K

While in the preschool and pre-k program, your child will expand his/her knowledge of the world around him/her while continuing to strengthen friendships and bonds. We are committed to creating an environment that nurtures children’s confidence and fosters the development of their imagination.

At Corning Children’s Center, learning should be, and is fun! Our approach is to encourage children to experience exploration, learning, and accomplishment in a joyous and fulfilling way.

A typical Preschool/Pre-K day at a glance:

Curriculum- We address all aspects of children’s physical, cognitive, emotional, and social growth and learning through the use of HighScope COR. Each aspect plays a critical role in helping children to develop as whole human beings.

Meal Time- This is a time for children to develop their conversation skills, self-help skills and social graces as they socialize with their peers and teachers while continuing to master serving meals family style and developing self-help skills.

Meeting Time- is a time that includes singing, talking about the day, reading books, learning about the calendar and weather, as well as other teacher-planned group activities. Meeting time gives children the opportunity to develop listening skills, practice taking turns, and experience the delight of shared learning.

Outside Time- is a time where children can continue to strengthen their large motor skills, explore the natural world, and run for the sheer joy of running. It can also be a time where the classrooms takes walks around the neighborhood, participate in traditional Center field trips to local businesses and explore the world around them.

Small Group Time- A variety of Centers are provided on a weekly basis to stimulate growth and develop skills in the following areas: Language arts, math, science, sensory, journal/literature, art, fine motor, and curriculum related activities. This approach is much like what they will experience when they go to Kindergarten.

Free Play- A great time for children to refine their social skills as they problem solve, cooperate, and use their imaginations to create, build, and have fun in the areas of their choice.

Please remember at the Corning Children’s Center, parent participation and partnership is encouraged.

What Our Parents are Saying

“I wanted to send you a quick note to tell you personally how much we appreciate everything you and your staff have done for our family throughout the years. As Sebastien recently transitioned to kindergarten (to a private school, no less), we were made keenly aware of just how good we had it at the Center. The contrast in the level of quality, service and support is significant. After experiencing a world-class educational environment at the Children’s Center, the mainstream seems so subpar! Looking back, I won’t remember the Children’s Center as the place where we kept Sebastien while Fabio and I worked at Corning Inc. I’ll think of the Corning Children’s Center as the place that equipped our son with a passion for learning, and a framework for respecting others, his environment and himself. As we enter this new phase of life, I trust that the fundamentals that were instilled in this little boy at home and at the Center will prepare him to face the days ahead with excitement and bravery knowing that he is valued, capable and most of all – loved. Thank you so very much.” - Brittany
